This program is designed to inspire and motivate our female students to become engaged in their education, learn about their identity and be driven to become competent young adults that know who they are, where they want to go and can contribute highly to society. It is essentially a cultural engagement program designed to build self-esteem, confidence, resilience and wellbeing. I am hoping that it will ignite a passion for the girls to seek knowledge about our true history and open the door for them to connect to their country, family and community.
It will be delivered through the cultural vehicle of “women’s business”, where our Aboriginal Elders or community members can be consulted about what activities are offered, share their life experiences and positive stories. The students will be given the opportunity to explore their culture with our Elders (Aunties) playing the role of mentor as they did in the past, because women were and still are the holders of cultural knowledge and are important to the survival of our culture.
